Dyke March 2012

Saturday, June 2nd

Every year, women from all over Western New York gather at the Dyke March to celebrate our love and passion for women and for Dykes everywhere. We celebrate our queer identity in all its manifestations. We understand the dyke identity to include those of us who are questioning and challenging gender constructs and the social definitions of women, and who are gender fluid. Dyke March participants share in the belief that it is important to be visible, even if for a single day of celebration with friends and family out in the community. Our rally showcases our community's phenonemal artists, critical thinkers, and political activists. Those who attend are from all classes, nationalities, and countries. We are intergenerational and varied in our physical conditions. Coming together in this way, we truly embrace the reality that we are without borders—both national and cultural. The strength we gather from this day comes with a message that advocates justice for all women against the multiple oppressions we face in our particular lives everywhere in the world and the message that we are not alone in our struggles or our joys. The Buffalo Dyke March and rally are about claiming our space, being visible in that space, and going into our daily lives expecting and receiving the respect we deserve. We also welcome ALL who want to support dykes to march with us. Celebrate dyke diversity!
